Every full-time staff member of Columbia Academy is required to attend three developmental training days every year to continue their professional education and stay current with the latest information.

Each day involves between four and six hours of continuing education, including lectures, discussions, and hands-on exercises to continuously improve our staff. Teachers can select from many specific topics, some of which are more focused on individual education, and some of which are collaborative.

Classes can range from improving certain types of teaching, like creative education, to current hot topics for school-age children, such as bullying. Conducted by professional trainers, these classes formally certify our teachers in different areas and keep them involved in continued professional development.

Columbia Academy is also approved to instruct teachers in Pre-Service classes such as the Infant/Toddler Course, Methods and Materials in Early Childhood Education, Child Growth and Development and School Age Child Care.  These courses and their instructors have all been approved by the State of Maryland Department of Education. Check out our approved course list for all the MSDE approved classes being offered. Training approval number is CKO-3265.
